The annual U.S. Masters XC Ski Team is an honorary "competition within the competition" to recognize the overall best competitor in every official age group at the AXCS National Masters events. When the Masters World Cup is held in North America, AXCS does not hold a separate National Masters so the Masters Team is determined within the overall results of the Masters World Cup schedule.
Points are awarded using a modified World Cup style system for 1st to 10th place. Scoring: 1st - 25 points, 2nd -20, 3rd - 15, 4th-10th --> 12-6 points.
Skiers wishing to be eligible for the Masters Team competition are required to do all official event distances assigned to their age/gender category (for MWC years in North America, skiers must do one race in each of the three age group distances -- for other NM years there are typically two races in one weekend with official distances picked by the AXCS Board for each age/gender category). Ties are determined by best overall individual race placings.
